LAFAYETTE â Former White County Sheriff Patrick Shafer has been dismissed from a federal lawsuit filed by a group of Meadowlawn Elementary School teachers alleging he was partly responsible for a January 2019 school shooting survival exercise gone awry.
The US District Court, Northern District of Indiana granted Shafer a stipulation of dismissal and dismissed with prejudice the lawsuitâs claims against him that he violated several of the teachersâ constitutional rights when they were shot with plastic pellets from an Airsoft gun, verbally abused, mocked and threatened during a pre-planned ALICE active-shooter training at Meadowlawn.

On January 15, 2021, following a week-long, live bench trial, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana entered final judgment in favor of the SEC against investment advisory firm, World Tree Financial, LLC and its co-owners Wesley Kyle Perkins and Priscilla Perkins. The SEC charged Wesley Perkins and World Tree on September 18, 2018 with perpetrating a fraudulent cherry-picking scheme. The SEC also charged Wesley Perkins, World Tree, and Priscilla Perkins for misrepresentations to investors regarding the firm s trading policies.
