Team USA will be the No. 1 seed in the 2022 IIHF Women’s World Championship after defeating Team Canada 5-2 in their final preliminary games.
The Americans will play No. 8 seed Hungary in the Thursday quarterfinal. Canada will take on No. 7 Sweden in their quarterfinal matchup also Thursday.
Megan Keller had a goal and an assist and Hilary Knight moved closer to the all-time points record at the world championship in a U.S. 5-2 win over the defending champions Canada to cap the preliminary round on Tuesday.
The Americans led 9-0 after two periods with goals by nine different players. It wasn’t until Alex Carpenter’s goal about four minutes into the third period that a U.S. player notched their second goal of the game.
