Altogether over 170,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine have arrived in Estonia, the Health Board is only keeping in storage second doses that are to be administered in the following week.
A 31-year-old male rescue worker vaccinated against coronavirus in February died on Wednesday (March 3) but it is not yet known if the vaccine played a role, Estonia s Agency of Medicines has said.
The man received the AstraZeneca vaccine on February 17. After the vaccination, he developed a headache and fever, which are common side effects but it is not known how long the side-effects lasted.
Ten days after receiving the vaccine, the man was hospitalized and died on Wednesday.
The State Agency of Medicines has said it is not yet known if the vaccine or its side effects played a role and it will take time to determine.
Last week 8,186 new cases of coronavirus were diagnosed across Estonia compared to 5,572 the previous week. There were more than 1,000 cases on six days and there were 58 deaths.
The government plans to amend the law to improve compliance with wearing a mask to prevent the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Kaja Kallas (Reform) said on Tuesday.
Speaking on the Stuudios on peaminister radio show, Kallas said: The obligation to wear a mask is already in place, but it could be better monitored. We have discussed that this requires changes to the law to be implemented and the government agrees that this change needs to be made quickly.
She said if the measures in place do not lead to a drop in new cases of coronavirus, new restrictions will be implemented.
The scientific advisory council has disclosed proposals it made to the government this week to curb the spread of the coronavirus. While the government did not follow all the guidelines, it extended the proposed period of distance learning.
