Unemployment down to 4.5% in Newton Newton County’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.5% in March as more residents found jobs and entered the labor force. Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said today, April 22, that Newton County saw positive over-the-month measures for nearly every key indicator in March. “We had another strong month in March,” said Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “We saw the unemployment rate drop in every single region and county, along with an increase in jobs across the state and most importantly, a decrease in over-the-year initial claims for every region and county.”

Ga Dept of Labor Says Thousands of Georgians Reapplying for UI Benefits Due to End of Benefit Year

AllOnGeorgia April 9, 2021 The Georgia Department of Labor says that due to many Georgians still being out of work and reaching the end of the period allowed for benefits, thousands are needing to refile claims for unemployment benefits. However, they also report that there are a record number of jobs available across the state.  Although businesses are starting to return to full capacity as more individuals receive vaccinations, many Georgians are still out of work due to the pandemic. Last year at this time, almost 400,000 individuals filed an unemployment insurance (UI) claim and those claimants are now reaching the end of their benefit year. Those who filed an individual claim and have reached the end of the 52-week period allowed for benefits will need to refile a claim to reopen his/her benefit year reporting any additional work history, including temporary, part-time, self-employment, or W-2 work.  Once the new regular UI claim is processed, claimants who are unable t
