I think the city of san jose is expansive and inclusive enough to have services and pay staff a livable wage. I dont think it is an either or, i think it is an endend. Though this is more about illuminating vacant positions than laying anybody off, the mayor says the city cannot afford the pay raises and plans to vote against the contracts. So for those who support these raises, i think they have a responsibility to say what they want to cut and should be prepared to recognize they will likely be saying that again in years two and three. So Public Comment is a mix of people supporting the raises and others who are speaking out against paying for them with cats. Specifically, a lot of people concerned about the park system and other programs. The council moved this boat to the end of the agenda today, so no telling how long this debate might go.
