Mr Mayor Brings Comedy to City Hall – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Tina Fey and Robert Carlock Executive Produced The show is set in Los Angeles Ted Danson wants to be clear. His new show “Mr. Mayor” is not about politics. It’s a workplace comedy set in Los Angeles’ City Hall. And in a time where anything political is so divisive, it’s smart to make that distinction less people start picking sides before the show debuts. Here’s hoping they give it a chance. “Mr. Mayor” is the brainchild of Tina Fey and Robert Carlock ( 30 Rock ). And the whip smart writing will feel familiar to fans of that show.  Mitchell Haddad/NBC

What could go wrong? Yet something did, at least on the basis of the new NBC comedy’s first two episodes, which premiere on Thursday. That’s a very small sample, but it’s what we have, and it’s a jarringly flat 42 minutes of television.

Mr Mayor review: Ted Danson is wisely elected to play TV s latest bumbling politician

Updated 2:32 PM ET, Wed January 6, 2021 Ted Danson in NBC s Mr. Mayor (Photo by: Colleen Hayes/NBC) (CNN)Ted Danson has a way of classing up even a so-so premise, and so it is with Mr. Mayor, a new sitcom from the 30 Rock tandem of Robert Carlock and Tina Fey. Returning to NBC fresh off The Good Place, the show allows its star to cut loose as L.A. s unlikely new mayor, which is a pretty good place to start. Granted, the bumbling-politician-and-his-eccentric-staff framework generally feels like a slightly warmed-over version of Veep, minus nonstop swearing. There s also a dollop of heart associated with Danson s Neil Bremer, a retired billboard tycoon, who ran in order to impress his teenage daughter (Kyla Kenedy) a sitcom-style subplot the show could probably have done without.
