Though not always deserved, mobile games have long since obtained a reputation for being rather shallow and money-grubbing affairs. And though the mobile space actually accounts for the lion’s share of the profits raked in by the game industry year over year, this monetary growth is seen by many to come at the cost of good game design.
SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off was always going to be a tough sell to the Switch audience, then, as this is
unmistakably a mobile game that adheres to all the stereotypical trappings. Believe it or not, it’s still an enjoyable game especially considering that the microtransactions have been stripped out but the shallow and repetitive design keeps it from having any real staying power.
SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off Extra Krusty Edition releases today on Switch

Developer Tilting Point and IP owner Nickelodeon have surprise-announced that
SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off launches on Nintendo Switch today, April 29, as the Switch-exclusive “Extra Krusty Edition.” To be more specific, it launches in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil today, while Europe and Asia will receive it “in the coming weeks.” This new version of the game adds four unique cooking powers, in additional to challenges and “additional downloadable content,” and retails for $29.99. The original version of the game is free to play and available on Android, iOS, and PC via the Microsoft Store.

Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite have a new stealth release, and it might be the most random and unexpected Switch and Switch Lite stealth release ever. Over on the Nintendo eShop, all Switch and Switch Lite users can now download SpongeBob: Krusty Cook-Off Extra Krusty Edition for $30, courtesy of publisher Tilting Point. If this game sounds familiar, it s because it s already available on mobile devices and PC, for free. Released back in 2020, it s amassed 35 million downloads to date.
To help sell Switch and Switch Lite users on the $30 price tag, the game has been redesigned and added to so it s less of a free-to-play mobile experience and more a premium console experience.
