ASCE: Infrastructure Grade 'Improves' To C- The Waterways Journal

March 5, 2021 By David Murray “For the first time in 20 years, our infrastructure is out of the D range.” So proclaimed the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), which released its 2021 Report Card for American Infrastructure March 3. This year, the overall grade for the nation’s infrastructure was a C-, up from a D+ four years ago. All the categories either stayed the same or advanced slightly. The new category of stormwater infrastructure, added this year, received a D.  While waterways improved slightly to a D+, ports received a B-, one of the best grades of any category. The ASCE releases such report cards every four years.  They drive discussion of the nation’s infrastructure needs both in Congress and in the media.

Roads Lag, Bridges Decline in Latest ASCE Infrastructure Report Card

Mar 03, 2021 The new bridge for the Port of Long Beach in California is the second-tallest cable-stayed bridge in the country. It opened in October during a virtual ceremony and will replace the Gerald Desmond Bridge. Photo credit: Port of Long Beach As the overall U.S. infrastructure grade rose over the past four years, roads lagged behind, and bridges saw a drop in score. Road conditions across the country rated a “D” in the 2021 Infrastructure Report Card by the American Society of Civil Engineers released March 3. That marks no improvement from the last report card in 2017. “Forty percent of the roads in the United States are in poor or fair condition,” said Maria Lehman, ASCE report card committee member. “And some of them are local roads, not all interstates.”

America's infrastructure report card is better, but not brag-to-the-neighbors good

America’s infrastructure report card is better, but not brag-to-the-neighbors good Updated Mar 03, 2021; The nation received slightly better grades for the condition of its roads, bridges, transit systems, dams, water and electric systems in a report card released Wednesday. While a report card for New Jersey’s infrastructure will come at a separate time, some statistics show New Jersey made some gains compared to the nation and since the last state report card in 2016. Generally, the national report card didn’t have the kind of grades that parents would brag to nana and pop-pop about. Still, for the first time in 20 years, the nation’s grade is a C-minus, up from 2017′s D-plus, said Kristina Swallow, American Society of Civil Engineers chairperson.
