GUWAHATI: Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid has said that he has foreseen an atmosphere of change in Assam, and that has made the BJP a bundle of nerves.
Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan here on Saturday, Khurshid said, The BJP has also realized the change in the making in Assam. The moves of the seemingly worried BJP speak volume of it. The party will have to face the reality. It s not acceptable to threaten anyone of facing the consequences of NIA investigations just for opposing the ruling alliance. If anyone violates the law, there s a legal process to act against him or her. However, a person cannot take the action. The Congress always abides by the rules of law, not of individuals.
Following a controversy over a polling team in Assam carrying an EVM in the vehicle belonging to the wife of a BJP candidate, the Congress on Saturday held a protest against the incident and alleged that the ruling party in the state is indulging in electoral manipulation. Amid slogan-shouting by the party workers, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Ripun Bora urged the Election Commission to take strict action against the BJP leaders who carry out illegal activities that hamper the polling process. The protest rally was not allowed to move forward on the busy arterial G S Road and stopped at the gate of the state Congress headquarters Rajiv Bhawan .

GUWAHATI: The Election Commission on Friday ordered repoll at a polling station in Southern Assam after the electronic voting machine (EVM) was found in the vehicle of a BJP candidate s wife on Thursday evening.
The EC said in a statement that the presiding officer and three other officials have been placed under suspension and a repoll has been ordered at the Indira M.V. School polling station under Ratabari Assembly constituency in the State.

Officials said on Saturday that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to determine why a polling party in Assam placed an EVM in the vehicle of the BJP candidate’s wife.
Karimganj District Superintendent of Police Ambamuthan MP issued an order on Friday night to probe the incident, which snowballed into a huge controversy between Assam assembly elections, the final phase of which is scheduled for Tuesday.
Additional District Magistrate Rajesan Terang has been asked to conduct an inquiry within three days and submit a detailed report.
