Galesburg Police have issued an arrest warrant for a man in connection with the Monday shooting incident on Blaine Avenue. 31-year-old John S. Thurman is facing charges of attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm. Thurman could be facing more charges pending review by the Knox County State's Attorney's Office. Galesburg Police responded at 5 a.m. Monday to 108 Blaine Ave. in reference to a subject laying in the yard screaming. Upon arrival, officers located a male subject laying in the yard screaming that he had been shot. Galesburg officers in cooperation with the Knox County State's Attorney's office conducted an investigation into the shooting incident, and a search warrant was executed at the Blaine Residence to gather evidence. The investigation lead to an arrest warrant being issued for Thurman. The 18-year-old victim is still being treated at the hospital for a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Galesburg police are seeking information into an ongoing investigation of a shooting early Sunday morning. According to the Galesburg Police Department, officers responded at around 1:30 to a shooting at the Grand Tap, located at 2051 Grand Avenue. On scene, several vehicles were located with bullet holes. A short while later, a victim arrived at OSF St. Mary Medical Center's ER with a gunshot wound. The victim was later transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital to treat their injuries. No more details on the victim or their injuries were released. The incident is under investigation and GPD is being assisted by the Illinois State Police, Knox County Sheriff's Office, Abingdon Police Department, and Knox County State's Attorney's Office. Knox County State's Attorney Jeremy Karlin announced this weekend that he has filed three petitions in court seeking to hold the Illinois Department of Human Services in contempt. He contends that the IDHS has failed to transport defendants previously found unfit to stand trial to DHS mental health hospitals. Karlin says that three defendants have been found unfit to stand trial and ordered into the custody of DHS. They were evaluated by DHS and found to be suitable for placement in McFarland Mental Health Hospital. However, the three have not been moved and some had been waiting for over 100 days "The duty of the Knox County State's Attorney's Office is to ensure the administration of justice in all aspects of each case," Karlin said in a release issued on Friday.
