Top 10 Hollywood Movie Actresses of All-Time – Veterans Today | Military Foreign Affairs Policy Journal for Clandestine Services

This past week we saw the 93rd Academy Awards give the Best Actress Award to Frances McDormand, again, for the 3rd time in her career. This is just one behind the record holder, Katherine Hepburn, who has 4 Oscars. But are these two the greatest of all time? Well before you read my list below, let me explain how I judged it. First, it is NOT by how many awards they won. So chill out, Kate Hepburn and Frances McDormand did NOT make my Top 10 but they did make the Top 20. If it was just Oscars, they would be 1 and 2. Instead, I judged these leading ladies by how consistently compelling they are when they appear on the silver screen. It did NOT matter how many movies they did. To me, it’s more of how they grab my attention when they act. In other words, when I see their name on the marquis do I immediately want to watch the movie just because of the top-billed actress.

Satyajit Ray “Not to have seen the cinema of Satyajit Ray means existing in the world without seeing the sun or the moon,” observed Akira Kurosawa with regards to the Indian master who would have turned one hundred this May. Influenced by the poetic humanism of Jean Renoir and the Italian neorealist movement, Ray self-financed his landmark debut Pather Panchali the first installment of his internationally celebrated Apu Trilogy, a cycle of richly humane masterworks that traces its title character’s journey from boyhood to maturity. Over the course of a long, remarkably varied career that encompassed forays into a wide array of genres including period pieces, comedies, detective mysteries, and documentaries Ray applied his compassionate, lyrical vision to explorations of female liberation (

Dalton Trumbo, 'The Brave One' and the Greatest Mystery in Oscar History

Blacklisted during the release of The Brave One, Dalton Trumbo (seated) finally received the best story Oscar from Walter Mirisch in 1975, 18 years after the ceremony, in recognition that he was the film s real author a fact some still dispute. Courtesy of AMPAS by Gary Baum, Scott Feinberg April 21, 2021, 6:45am PDT How Robert Rich s 1957 story win for the film (despite the fact that he didn t write a word) kicked off one of Hollywood s most intriguing credit battles and why it remains unsolved. On May 15, 1975, Dalton Trumbo was vindicated. One of Hollywood s top screenwriters a committed leftist whose career had cratered under the blacklist before his back-channel maneuvering helped defeat it lay in ill health at his West Hollywood home when there was a knock on his door. It was the producer Walter Mirisch, then the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, Oscar in hand.
