EDA to distribute forgivable loans to Prior Lake restaurants

At a Dec. 16 special meeting, the Prior Lake Economic Development Authority approved a resolution for a COVID-19 Restaurant Assistance Program, which authorizes city staff to issue forgivable loans in the amount of $10,000. The loans will provide financial assistance to restaurants impacted by the governor’s recent order of closure, the EDA agenda report states. The loans are for full-service restaurants in the city that hold “on-sale intoxicating liquor licenses which rely primarily on the service of lunch and/or dinner to customers in its interior dining room without access to a drive-thru or take-out window; or full-service restaurants serving breakfast, lunch and dinner where the majority of customers are served and consume food in its interior dining room without access to a drive-thru or take-out window,” the report states.

Prior Lake restaurants, boutiques collaborate for holiday support

To help provide one-stop shopping every holiday season, Becky Leffler, owner of Sweet Nautical Boutique in Prior Lake, purchases gift cards for her customers to pair with items they picked out from her store. In the past, she’s picked up gift cards from various chains like Starbucks or Caribou Coffee, just for the sake of convenience to her shoppers. But this year she saw her holiday tradition as a way to give back. Leffler, along with seven other Prior Lake boutique owners will now sell gift cards to Charlie’s on Prior through the holiday season to help support shopping and eating local.

Mystic Lake Casino, some food options remain open with precautions

Restaurants and bars throughout the state were once again forced to shut their doors on Nov. 20 following the governor’s executive orders in response to the ongoing pandemic. When exactly the establishments will be able to return to providing dine-in services is still somewhat unclear, but many tribal-run casinos and restaurants have continued serving guests throughout this second shutdown including Mystic Lake Casino Hotel in Prior Lake. Indigenous tribes within the U.S. are sovereign nations, which allows them the authority to govern themselves and independently make decisions on their operations. - Advertisement - “The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s Gaming Enterprises — including Mystic Lake Casino Hotel and Little Six Casino — will remain open, following comprehensive COVID-19 health and safety plans. As a sovereign tribal nation, we made this decision in consultation with our Tribal Public Health Department,” the SMSC said in a statement
