After that, he ran down the street, fired more shots and bolted in a house at 18th. The victim is a woman. She died on the scene. The suspected gunman said to be in his 70s hon holed up in the house since then. There have been negotiations. Police are using a bull horn to get the person out. Theres been no movement inside the house. Response from folks that live around here say both people are neighborhood nobody is identifying anybody yet. They know the woman and the man involved as well. It adds to the tragedy of it all. I think the best part of it is that not just being concerned, but grieving, a sadness that this wasnt resolved and a life is gone. Reporter theres a wide perimeter set up around the intersection. Reporter this situation is still going on. We have a couple blocks away at 18th ant otis. Police set up a perimeter since it started 11 00. A man shot a woman in the street, then ran into a house near the intersection of 18th and otis. No movement inside the house. They have been trying to negotiate with the gentleman to try to talk him off. So far, that has not hopped. Some people have not been able to get to their homes and may have left before the situation started and come back to find out their home is part of a crime scene. Folks in the neighborhood say they both are part of this community here, long time parts of the community and both people are known and it makes it that much more tragic that their interactions turn tragic. Would cut off nighttime service in their neighborhood. Instead police are going to place a cruiser in the neighborhood around the clock. That detour went into effect saturday night. Police say it was a temporary detour because of several security related incidents including a shooting that happened friday night where a man that was simply sitting on a bus was hit by gunfire. They are angry that bus service was scaled back. Many would have to walk a mile and a half to get to the closest metro station. Earlier today, pat collins was able to speak to bowser about this detour and she inld kated that she did not know this was going to happen. What does that say about the violence in the city . They have been talking about that for years. Sunt that send a bad message. Obviously they were on the scene, aware that there was no clarity of when this detour was taking place.
