Restaurants Rise Again from the Winter Storm

Houstonians are a hardy bunch of folks but this past winter storm coupled with an ongoing pandemic and political back-biting about energy has some of us ready to throw in the towel. One of the hardest hit industries is the hospitality sector with restaurants, cafes, bars and food purveyors falling victim to not only the weather but power outages and water issues that had many of them closings their doors this week. Most of our restaurants have reopened in some form or another. Some are doing only take-away. Others are offering dine-in, a welcome respite for those who have eaten weenie-beanies and canned tuna for the past week. While many are back to offering their full menus, others may have limited menu items due to supply issues. Some restaurants have had to discard thousands of dollars worth of food and drink because of the storm. This is a time for us all to practice a little patience as we support our local businesses. Deshaun Watson Brings Lefty's to Houston, Texas City Goes Live

Lefty s Famous Cheesesteaks, Hoagies and Grill, 8057 Kirby, opened December 15 with Houston Texans  Chester Pitts, Roderick Johnson, Laremy Tunsil, Duke Johnson and Brandin Cooks in attendance to lend support to their teammate, Texans quarterback, Deshaun Watson. Watson, who became an owner of the brand in August this year, plans to open multiple franchises in Houston.  Also on hand were Willie D and Z-Ro of the Geto Boys. President Sam Berry, CEO Allie T. Mallad and Watson are debuting Lefty s first location outside of Michigan. Berry, a 36-year-old cancer survivor, founded the fast-casual brand in 2010. It now has 23 locations in Michigan and twenty more stores are planned in the next four months including a second Houston location at 1010 Federal in January 2020. The company plans to open 150 stores across Texas.
