Counties get Sh12 7 million worth of seedlings - FarmKenya Initiative

FARMKENYA INITIATIVE Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries Chief Administrative Secretary Anne Nyaga assesses a kitchen garden at Kilimo House in Nairobi. [Wilberforce Okwiri, Standard] The government has released seeds, seedlings and farm inputs worth Sh12.7 million to be distributed to farmers in 11 counties. The counties are Makueni, Kajiado, Machakos, Bomet, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Nyeri, Tana River, Murang’a, Nyandarua and Kitui. The project is part of the Small Scale Irrigation and Value Addition Programme (SIVAP) funded by Africa Development Bank (AfDB), a grant from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) and the Government of Kenya.

The handle @KilimoKe shared two controversial tweets on April Fools’ Day under the hashtag #Uhuruamalizeande and #unlockthecountry, which were bashing the government. While issuing the apology, the ministry claimed the account had been temporarily hijacked. “The Ministry apologises for controversial tweets sent out from this account twenty minutes ago, which was temporarily hijacked,” reads part of the apology tweet.

Shock as senior NLC official Jennifer Wambua found dead

PHOTO | KITAVI MUTUA The body of a senior officer with the National Land Commission (NLC), veteran Machakos journalist Jennifer Itumbi Wambua, was on Monday discovered at the Ngong Forest. This was confirmed by Kilimani DCIO, Fatima Hadi, at the City Mortuary where her body was taken by the police. Her body was positively identified by her husband. Ms Wambua, a former bureau chief with the Kenya News Agency (KNA) in Machakos, was last seen on Friday morning, March 12, when her husband dropped her off at work. Ms Wambua did not return home from work on Friday and she had not been traced by Sunday evening.
