YOUR PICTURES: Striking supermoon lights up the sky over north Essex GAZETTE Camera Club members were up at ‘high moon’ to capture these stunning images. A rare, pink supermoon lit up the sky overnight on Tuesday, making it look bigger and brighter than normal. In April, the full moon is called a “pink moon” after the pink phlox flowers which bloom in springtime. It is also known as a supermoon because the celestial event occurs when it is near its closest point to earth in its orbit. These great pictures were taken at Dovercourt and Clacton.

TALENTED amateur photographers captured stunning images of the Super Moon as the rare event unfolded on Tuesday. The event, known as the lunar spectacle, allows the moon to appear about seven per cent bigger and 15 per cent brighter than a normal full moon. It appears when the moon is at its closest point to Earth and therefore at its brightest.
Camera club member Kevin Jay snapped this beautiful shot And India Lindsay-Wheeler, who visited Dovercourt beach to witness the spectacle said the moon looked “huge.” She added: “There were people parked up in cars by both beaches, even late into the evening.
