Coronavirus update: As death toll hits milestones, Fresno-area vaccine distribution lags

Jan. 20 The coronavirus death toll across the nation rolled past 400,000 on Tuesday, including a number of new fatalities reported in central San Joaquin Valley counties following the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend.
Fresno County interim health officer Dr. Rais Vohra reported 36 additional deaths, bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the county to 968.
Madera County added 21 deaths with 151 to date, Merced County had 12 deaths to bring its total to 308. There were five more coronavirus deaths in Tulare County with a total of 506, and two in Kings County with a total of 145.

At the Kern County Fairgrounds, about 300 pre-selected people per will be in line to get their COVID-19 vaccine over the next few days, eventually to increase to 5000 per day, according to Kern County Public Health. Meanwhile, the Biden administration has begun its first 100 days with the goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans within that time frame.
COVID numbers jump again in Kern County as public health announces 7 new deaths

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) â The latest COVID numbers jumped again Friday morning with the county dashboard revealing seven new deaths attributed to the coronavirus. The total number of deaths now stands at 558.
The website also tracking more than 400 patients that are being treated in one of 10 area hospitals.
There were 1,149 more positive tests pushing that grand total to more than 83,500. Nearly 51,000 of those tests are people 18 to 49.
Meantime, the county is opening a mass vaccination site at the Kern County Fairgrounds next week. On Wednesday they ll be holding a soft opening to a pre-designated group of people.
