Darfur Bar Association launches fact-finding commission to investigate West Darfur attacks

The Commission announces the formation of a fact-finding committee on the violations committed in West Darfur, which began on the morning of Friday 22 April 2022, with the attack on the locality of Kereinik, and the attack, killing and intimidation, extended to the city of El Geneina and until today (April 27, 2022), for the purpose of explaining the naked truth and access to the correct numbers that are close to the accuracy of the human losses in the number of dead, injured, wounded, missing persons and material losses in public and private property.

Health facilities, markets, and other institutions remain closed despite a ‘cautious calm’ reported from El Geneina and Kereinik in West Darfur. At least 200 people, including children, have died in several days of violence, widely attributed to attacks by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) ‘janjaweed’ militiamen, exploiting, inflaming, and blaming ‘inter-tribal conflicts’.

UN: 'Sudan govt responsible for safety of civilians in West Darfur'

The UN Secretary-General António Guterres, and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet, have independently called on the government of Sudan to take responsibility for the protection of civilians, and to prevent further outbreaks of violence in the restive Kereinik locality in West Darfur, where at least 200 people, including children, have died in several days of violence, widely attributed to attacks by Rapid Support Forces (RSF) ‘janjaweed’ militiamen, exploiting, inflaming, and blaming ‘inter-tribal conflicts’.

Darfur Governor lambasts poor security measures in wake of tribal massacre

The governor of Darfur, Minni Arko Minawi, criticised the security forces in Darfur, explaining that security in Darfur “needs to be privatised and reformed”. In a press statement during a Ramadan Iftar in Khartoum on Sunday, Minawi said “organisations and the local community should pay officers so that troops can move and intervene to resolve conflicts”.
