Angus SNP shuffle as Forfar councillor Lynne Devine says she's stepping away from local government

Forfar councillor Lynne Devine has stepped down from the role with immediate effect following the group’s AGM. She told colleagues she wanted to step aside as she won’t be standing for re-election in May. Monifieth and Sidlaws councillor Beth Whiteside takes over as group leader following Monday’s development. Councillor Beth Whiteside. Montrose councillor Bill Duff and Brechin and Edzell member Kenny Braes are joint deputes. Ms Devine’s decision means the leaders of both administration and opposition on the current council are not seeking re-election next May.

Sign Up A historic Kirriemuir pub has won a beer garden go-ahead to help the popular premises bounce back from the pandemic. But the granting of planning permission to the Thrums Hotel has triggered wider concerns the town is gaining an unwelcome reputation as an antisocial behaviour hotspot. Angus development standards committee unanimously approved David and Karen Clark’s plans to turn part of the car park of the premises they have owned for 30 years into a beer garden.

Sign Up Angus Council chiefs remain confident of weathering the coronavirus storm to keep ambitious affordable housing plans afloat. Through its Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), it is estimated that around 550 homes could be built between now and 2026 by the council and housing association partners. The schemes will be subsidised to the tune of £31 million by the Scottish Government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme.
