New Angle Has Scammers Trying To Get People To React Without Remembering Warnings

Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, is warning residents of an old scam with a new angle. Reports have been coming in that area residents are receiving phone calls with numbers that appear to be of local origin. The scammer will say they need to have access to banking information or they will shut off your power. That is not a new tactic, but the scammers are getting more bold and aggressive, telling victims they need that information now or their power will be shut off in the next 30 minutes. This is an attempt to create a sense of urgency and to get the caller to forget the often-heard advice to hang up and contact the power provider directly. The power company or really any other legitimate business will not call and make such demands. Customers are generally contacted multiple times by official mail when necessary. Pingrey also reminds residents the majority of these scams originate outside of the United States. Once money is sent, there is nothing law enforcement can do to get

The supervisors have decided they will review the agreement on an annual basis. They were also presented bids for food services. Five equipment and installation bids were received with the one from TriMark Hockenbergs Equipment and Supply of Des Moines approved at $96,500. Pingrey also presented information about a company that will be in charge of all food preparation, service and cleanup. They hire the employees and take care of payroll and benefits, order the food and keep all the records. Pingrey says with an average of 25 to 29 inmates per day, the per-meal cost $4.45 or $13.35 per day. At 10 to 14, the rate goes up to $8.78 per meal. Pingrey adds with housing Calhoun County prisoners, he believes they can stick to that higher number. The company is licensed and bonded and the cooks are certified. Stephanie Hausman asked about comparisons. The current one meal per day that is catered into the jail is at a price of $7 each and hiring to have it done is more cost prohibitive than

Local Individuals In The Legislature, Law Enforcement And Court System Address Constitutional Carry Misconceptions

Sellers will be prosecuted if they knowingly sell to a disqualified individual.  That category includes felons, drug addicts, someone who has been dishonorably discharged from the military, has committed domestic abuse or been the subject of a mental health commitment. Carroll County Sheriff, Ken Pingrey, says he is in favor of the new law, but is still advocating for those purchasing and carrying weapons to get a permit through the state. Pingrey does not believe this will really change anything. He says there are plenty of gun laws in place and illegal gun sales have happened since there were guns; and they will continue to happen. Those individuals will be prosecuted. Carroll County Attorney, John Werden, agrees.
