We have some very dry conditions around the bay area. Unusually dry. We have hardly had any rain at all for the season, record dry year last year. So here we go. Out the door, we have High Pressure building in again. And those offshore winds are blowing especially over the mountaintops. Skies are nice and clear right now. But looks like we are going to see some very dry conditions over the mountains and that means, well, we are going to see some red flag warnings staying up over the mountaintops, as well. Fire crews tell us they have to be prepared for anything at this point. Winds were so strong in berkeley monday evening that they toppled over this tree on benita way. At high elevations like this gusts to reach 40 Miles Per Hour. So these conditions mean big changes for how firefighters have to do their jobs. They have to wear their lightweight fire gear and their regular gear. They have to have both of that on hand. The low fuel moisture, the low atmospheric moisture, and high winds, if somebody caught on fire up there it could spread rapidly involving many residences and buildings and be a much greater hazard to life and property than a fire under normal conditions for this time of year.
