Local Plan: Keighley West residents urged to have their say

A KEIGHLEY West councillor is urging people in the ward to examine the newly-published draft Local Plan – and give their views. More than 700 new homes are allocated for sites within the ward as part of the document, produced by Bradford Council. Councillor Adrian Farley says it’s important that residents look at the proposals and have their say. “There are some sites – such as those once occupied by the old Whinfield flats and the now-demolished school – which I think are right for housing,” said Cllr Farley. “The flats site has become a dumping ground for rubbish and an eyesore – I’ve been pushing for something to be done there for some time.

Keighley-district fly-tipping hotspots are revealed

FLY-tipping hotspots across the Keighley area have been revealed. The extent of the problem – described as “shocking” by the town’s MP – has been highlighted through data obtained via a Freedom of Information request. In a two-and-a-half-year period, more than 2,200 fly-tipping incidents were reported across the six Keighley-district Bradford Council wards. The area with the highest total was Keighley Central, where 771 cases were recorded. Its ward councillors say the problem is “a major issue”, but that work is being carried out to try to tackle it. “We’ve been working alongside other agencies on this for a long time,” said Councillor Khadim Hussain.

Keighley housing group backs No Child Cold campaign

Incommunities has pledged £2,000 to the No Child Cold initiative. And it is urging other businesses, plus community groups and individuals, to get on board. With lockdown leading to home schooling and families spending more time indoors, many households have seen energy bills soar. It’s estimated that at least 21,000 youngsters in the district are living in households that are struggling to afford the cost of extra heating this winter. The No Child Cold campaign is being spearheaded by a partnership including Bradford Council, Citizens Advice – which has a base at Central Hall in Alice Street, Keighley – and voluntary-sector groups. Give Bradford, which supports community organisations, is helping to process contributions to the campaign. So far, online donations have reached nearly £10,000.

Bradford's fly-tipping hotspots REVEALED | Bradford Telegraph and Argus

30 = Wharfedale (47) The scourge of fly-tipping has been highlighted in the Telegraph & Argus on many occasions, with recent incidents including piles of rubbish being dumped in Holme Wood and Bierley, as well as close to the Heaton Woods beauty spot. Last week, a pile of what appeared to be a broken up piece of furniture could be seen in the grounds of Horton Park.  Matt Edwards, a Community Campaigner for the Green Party for the Tong ward, said the situation in the south of the city in particular “seems to be getting worse”. “Fly tipping causes misery for people living by some of the worst hotspots and we have to make life as uncomfortable as possible for the people who dump rubbish in our local environment. We’ve got to be clear that this is not a victimless crime,” he said.

I thought he was starting to get better; it s a shock. He will be truly missed, I went to Pakistan with him last year and it was such a good time, we laughed every day.
