FSU researchers develop battery component with plant compounds
A Florida State University research team has developed a way to use a material found in plants to help create safer batteries.
Using the organic polymer lignin a compound in the cell walls of plants that makes them rigid the team was able to create battery electrolytes. Their research was published as the cover article in the journal Macromolecular Rapid Communications.
Hoyong Chung, an assistant professor of chemical and biomedical engineering in the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the study’s corresponding author.
Other members of the research team are: Daniel Hallinan Jr., FAMU-FSU College of Engineering associate professor and co-corresponding author; former graduate student Hailing Liu; and former graduate assistant Logan Mulderrig.
The nomination period for prospective local candidates in Wisconsinâs April 6, 2021, election is underway.
Those wishing to be on ballots must submit their nomination papers by 5 p.m. Jan. 5 at their local clerkâs office. Any primary elections needed due to the number of candidates running for one seat will take place Feb. 16.

Cassville Village Board â The village president seat, currently held by Keevin Williams, will be on the ballot in the spring. Three village board of trustees spots also will be open. Those positions are now filled by Jared Kasten, John Lau and Robert Vogt.
