DDC Members Administered Oath Across JK
SRINAGAR: The elected members of maiden District Development Council (DDC) elections held in the history of Jammu and Kashmir were on Monday administered oath by respective district heads across all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
On the occasion, 138 DDC members representing 138 Block Constituencies of 10 districts of the division swore in the name of God and pledged to bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution of India and also uphold the Sovereignty of India.
AT SRINAGAR: The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, today administered oath to the recently elected members of District Development Council (DDC) of Srinagar, who registered their victory in the first DDC election held in Jammu & Kashmir.
Former BJP minister Shakti Raj Parihar lost the District Development Council (DDC) election from two constituencies in Doda district despite his party emerging as the single largest party in Jammu and Kashmir in the first election after abrogation of the special status and downgrading of the erstwhile state into a Union Territory last year. The People s Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an amalgam of seven mainstream parties including National Conference and PDP which have come together to seek restoration of the special status, was leading the result tally late Tuesday night by winning 99 seats against 77 won by the BJP. Independent candidates won 45 seats till the filing of this report.

JAMMU, Dec 19: Large scale violence, confined to Poonch district, broke out in the eighth and final phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections held on 15 seats of Jammu region today in which more than two dozen persons including two candidates, one of them a woman, were injured prompting police to register six First Information Reports (FIRs) at Mendhar police station in which some contestants are also likely to be booked, even as the voting percentage touched all time high at 72.7 in all the phases.

JAMMU, Dec 18: Former Minister and kin of many prominent politicians including ex Members of Parliament, Ministers and legislators, retired bureaucrat and other bigwigs are among 85 candidates who are in the fray for eighth and final phase of voting on 15 seats of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu region tomorrow.
The seats which will go to polling here tomorrow include Khour in Jammu district, Samba-A and Samba-B (Samba), Keerian Gandyal (Kathua), Ramnagar-I and Ramnagar-II (Udhampur), Trigam and Kishtwar (Kishtwar), Assar (Doda), Rajgarh (Ramban), Reasi (Reasi), Darhal and Sunderbani (Rajouri) and Mendhar-C and Mankote (Poonch).
