This incident is one of nearly 900 shots fired calls in to the Des Moines Police so far this year. Thats up from last years total of 848. And this year is not even over yet but police say calls for , service arent true indicators of crime rates. Police tell us they do use the calls to determine which neighborhoods need extra enforcement, especially during the summer months. We did hear Police Respond to another shots fired call overnight at 1217 fillmore street. That turned out to be shots fired at a home, one breaking a window. Elizabeth Des Moines Police also respond to a lot of breakin and burglary calls. In fact every year there are , more than 2200 breakins in des moines. We have some freezing rain that will move into western iowa initially. Around 9 00 a. M. , accumulations could be higher. Heading west of the metro, around 3 00 p. M. , we will start to see a change around webster county. In the metro, it may hold off until around 9 00 for our temperatures to drop below freezing. It will get icf there. Subsurface temperatures in the 40s. 40s dropping to the 30s. We click on down to just around 32 degrees at 9 00. Not a great impact on southeastern iowa because you will stay above freezing right into early friday morning. I do want to point out again, this is thursday night for the metro, for most of us it will be very wet. Notice how temperatures just drop off.
