Hopes for second Kampot town

A recently-minted coastal town in the southwestern province of Kampot has generated very high hopes for investment, development and jobs in the area.
The government issued a sub-decree on March 16 to establish Bokor town in the western reaches of the province, adjacent to the western edge of Kampot town and comprised of three communes formerly in Teuk Chhou district – Prek Tnort, Koh Touch and Boeung Touk from west to east.
The new town will have significant overlap with Bokor National Park – which extends to bordering districts and neighbouring Preah Sihanouk province – and will house the park’s main attractions.

PHNOM PENH (The Phnom Penh Post/ANN): The Kep Provincial Administration is pushing forward the preparation of plans and maps to expand the province’s public recreation areas – from only 300m currently to 3km along the province’s nearly 27km coastline – in Thmey village of Kep town’s Prey Thom commune to cater for tourists.
Provincial governor Som Piseth told The Post on Monday (March 15) that until now, the preparation was about 70 to 80 per cent complete and would be finished by the Khmer New Year in April.

Firm told to stop activities amid Kampot land dispute

The Kampot Provincial Administration has issued a letter instructing the So Nguon Group to suspend its clearing activities on disputed land in Dom Phdao village of Chhouk district’s Trapaing Phlaing commune.
The dispute over the lands is between the company and former soldiers at the Coastal Island Defense Command.
Provincial governor Cheav Tay said that a representative of the Coastal Island Defense Command had sought an intervention from him on March 15 to stop the company from bulldozing the land and demarcating a boundary before a peaceful solution is reached.

CLV PMs talk trade, investment

Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (CLV) on March 10 reaffirmed their commitment to boost border trade and investment with a specific focus on the construction of border markets and to improve customs clearance procedures.
The pledge was made during a virtual discussion between Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and his Vietnamese and Lao counterparts Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Thongloun Sisoulith.
The prime ministers agreed to work together in a more productive and collaborative way to facilitate trade and investment processes and improve control of the entry of goods via border checkpoints, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said in a press release.
