These three recent sentences bring the total
amount of fines so far this year to $125,090. Last month
Hawke’s Bay dairy company, Maxwell Farms Ltd, was fined
$48,750 for illegally discharging 80,000 litres of effluent
into a stream which turned it green. In February Hawke’s
Bay Protein Ltd was fined $38,500 for illegal odour
discharges.
This week, Judge Melinda Dickey has
sentenced three more companies for various breaches to the
Resource Management Act 1991.

Hawke s Bay Regional Council says a bright green stream near to where roughly 20 dead fish were found last week is healthy.
About 20 perch and goldfish were found dead, floating in a pond downstream of the Hastings Top 10 Holiday Park last week, and on Monday the stream was photographed near Splash Planet carpeted by a bright green growth.

About 20 fish have died in mysterious circumstances in the Awahou Stream near Windsor Park in Hastings.
Hawke s Bay Regional Council group manager policy and regulation Katrina Brunton confirmed council had been notified of the dead fish on Wednesday.
About 20 dead perch and goldfish, measuring about 15 centimetres long were found floating in the pond area - no native fish or eels were found dead.

A Hawke’s Bay dairy company, Maxwell Farms Ltd, has been fined $48,750 for illegally discharging 80,000 litres of effluent into a stream which turned it green.
The company was sentenced in the Hastings District Court today by Judge Melinda Dickey, after a prosecution taken by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council for breaching the Resource Management Act 1991.
