president barack obama who got only 20% negative coverage. this is why political consultant harlan hill says the president just needs to keep tweeting away. katie fratus says the president needs to tone it down. harlan, you know, you look at stats like that, like we just showed you from the pugh research center, and it s clear the media doesn t like the guy. they really don t. we could point to numerous stories and headlines and pictures, et cetera, that prove that. if you re him, isn t this a way for you to fire back? you don t have to go through a reporter. you can say it directly yourself. yeah. unfiltered. trish: so you say he should keep doing that? absolutely, i m numbers driven. you know, he was wildly outspent in 2016. the tool, the differentiator that he had that clinton did not have was this incredibly engaged
twitter audience. he was able to leverage twitter for enormous media. he played the liberal media like a fiddle. of course they want him to stop. he used them. he used them. he shouldn t take their advice because i don t think that i think they re diametrically opposed to the president of the united states. don t listen to them. you re doing great, mr. president. it s a breath of fresh air. he s speaking to us trish: katie, you don t like this twitter thing. some of that breath, some of that air is angry. some of the thin skin reactions that he tweets need to go. perhaps in their stead, he should be tweeting smarter. i don t think the white house does a very good job of pushing out the press releases and touting out the numbers. he should be doing that instead. the mainstream media covers anything he tweets. so he needs to be tweeting out his accomplishments.
meantime, he s continuing to engage his core audience, he s core voters to get out there and spread his message. when that changes, i ll change my tune. trish: it s empowering, effective. katie, it s really changed the whole political landscape. i grew up in the state of new hampshire which is always first in the nation in the primary. what was really neat about it is all the candidates would go all over the state and they would have coffee and different people s homes and get to meet everyone face to face and shake their hands and there was a sense of really knowing the candidates. donald trump went into new hampshire and he didn t have to do any of that. he would just give these big, big speeches and the big auditoriums and thousands of people would come. for whatever reason, a lot of people felt connected. they felt like they had been to that coffee in the living room because of twitter. you re right. he does do an excellent trump does an excellent job
