The Red Oak Victory Ship is located at 1337 Canal Blvd. in Richmond. Regular tickets are $5 for children age 8 and under and $15 for adults, while tickets including a docent guided tour of the ship are $18 for kids and $25 for adults.
Funded via Richmond Promise’s Grant from the City of Richmond’s Department of Children & Youth, the organization handed out nearly 40 laptops provided by Oakland-based Tech Exchange, which in part provides free refurbished computers and digital literacy training to low-income families. Another, roughly, 15 laptops will be distributed to scholars soon.
The memorial, taking place at 3322 Cutting Blvd., will bring together members of the Perez family with local police, city officials and Richmond community members to “honor a life cut short [and] to support our advocacy for police accountability and reduced deadly encounters,” according to a family statement.
