Board of Elections Release of New Vote Counts Not Far Off Previous Release

Credit: Ray Raimundi New York, NY (77WABC) The New York City Board of Elections re-released the tabulations for the first-round of ranked-choice voting results in the Democratic primary for Mayor of the City of New York. Almost three hours after their initial deadline of 3:30pm Wednesday afternoon, the Board of Election officials unveiled the new numbers, which were not far off from the count released Tuesday. Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams still maintains a slight lead over former New York City Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia.  The latest tally has Adams with 358,521 votes or 51-percent, while Garcia garnered 343,766 or just under 49-percent.   The candidates only separated by 14,755 votes with 120,000 plus absentee ballots which still have not been counted.

Eric Adams keeps 1st-choice lead as more New York mayoral primary results arrive

Spencer Platt/Getty Images (NEW YORK)– Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams maintains a lead in the preliminary vote count for New York City’s Democratic primary for mayor, but preliminary results released by the city on Tuesday suggest a closer-than-expected race that could swing in a different direction when all votes are counted. In the unofficial results for the final round of ranked-choice voting, former counsel to Mayor Bill de Blasio Maya Wiley slipped to third place, while former Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia moved into second place. “We’ve been saying from the start this was going to be close,” Lindsey Green, a spokesperson for Garcia, told ABC News. “This new information obviously supports that. We feel confident, but there are obviously over 120,000 absentee votes still to be counted and we are going to have patience and wait for every vote to be counted.”

((Spencer Platt/Getty Images) (Stephanie Keith/Getty Images)) NEW YORK CITY Eric Adams held a slim, 16,000-vote lead in the Democratic mayoral primary after eagerly awaited ranked-choice voting results were released Tuesday. But the results are far from final and Kathryn Garcia, the second-place finisher after 11 rounds, could conceivably close the gap when 125,000 absentee ballots are counted July 6. The results could indicate a final tight race between Adams and Garcia, who has stressed patience as officials go through the new ranked-choice voting process.
