Well, then! It’s been quite the week for Mariners fans as we’ve been dealing with the fallout of the Zoom call heard ‘round the baseball world. First of all, I’ve never been more proud to be a part of this staff and community. Don’t you ever believe that the voice of devoted fans can’t create change. Secondly, hey, did you know there is practice baseball this Sunday and we get to finally see how this young team’s season is going to unfold? My idle thoughts have very much not been filled by baseball thoughts very often the last few months for a variety of reasons, but the last few days they have crept back in and are making themselves comfortable. Blessings and curses to you, Spring Training backfield videos!

FEB. 22, 3:02pm: Mather has resigned, Divish was among those to tweet. As part of a statement regarding Mather’s resignation, Mariners chairman John Stanton said: “There is no excuse for what was said, and I won’t try to make one. I offer my sincere apology on behalf of the club and my partners to our players and fans. We must be, and do, better. We have a lot of work to do to make amends.” Stanton added that he’ll serve as acting president/CEO until the team finds a permanent replacement for Mather.
It’s not a huge surprise to hear the admission that Seager probably won’t be back in 2022. Still, no players want to find that out from audio of a private speech to someone else, and they certainly wouldn’t want their family to find out that way either.
