Mountain Home High School's basketball teams had their first home outing in three weeks, and it turned out to be a rough one, as they were swept by Russellville
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams came away with a split on Friday at Siloam Springs.
The Bomber boys came from behind to force overtime and went on to beat the Panthers 53-47. After Mountain Home went up 4-2, Siloam Springs followed with a 10-0 run. For much of regulation, the Panthers had the advantage, which got into double digits in the third quarter. But the Bombers forced Siloam Springs into 21 turnovers, allowing them to claw their way back. Jake McGehee hit a three in the corner with less than two minutes left to tie the game at 43, and that would force the extra period. Mountain Home struck first in overtime for the second and final lead change of the night. The Panthers were held to a couple of layups, and the Bombers later posted the six-point win.
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams wrapped up non-conference play on a rough note Saturday, as they were swept at Jonesboro.
The evening began with the Lady Bombers falling to the Lady Hurricane 62-39. Jonesboro jumped out early on Mountain Home ending the first quarter with a 17-3 lead. As the game continued, the Lady Hurricane inched further away from the Lady Bombers, as they went on to post the 23-point win.
Kate Gilbert led Mountain Home with 16 points, and Addison Yates added 10. For Jonesboro, Ereauna Hardaway scored 20 points, and Lakiya Scott chipped in 13.
The Lady Bombers fall to 1-10 on the season. The Lady Hurricane improves to 8-3.
The rally came up short for the Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team on Tuesday. The Lady Bombers ended up getting edged out by Jonesboro 41-38.
The Lady Hurricane jumped out early with an 11-1 lead, but Mountain Home came back with the margin at four at halftime. The Lady Bombers started the second half by making it a one-point game on a three-pointer by Annie Norcross, but Jonesboro responded by scoring the next nine to go back up double digits. Mountain Home made another comeback eventually cutting the deficit back to three.
The Lady Hurricane’s Ereauna Hardaway was fouled on their last offensive possession with 2.9 seconds left. She missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Norcross got the rebound and threw the ball to Kate Gilbert near the half court line. Gilbert tried one last heave to tie the game, but her shot was blocked, and the clock soon hit zero.
