AT exactly 8:15 pm, April 20, 2021, the ruinous ring of kidnapping for ransom extended its orbit of terror when at least 23 students and staff were kidnapped in Kasarami village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during an attack by suspected armed bandits at Greenfield University. Both local and international social media platforms went berserk, detailing and condemning the kidnap, with police authorities confirming the abduction, saying that suspected armed bandits infiltrated the institution in large numbers and abducted the students while killing one member of staff. Outrageously, the abductors had informed both government and parents of their abductees that they would collect N800 million as a ransom for the release of their captives.

Fani-Kayode, a staunch critic of President Buhari, tweeted this Thursday in reaction to Buhari’s appeal to abductors of the Greenfield University students.
One of the abducted students of Greenfield University, has been released by the bandits.
Although the police and the Kaduna government were yet to confirm the development, mother of the student, confirmed the release of her son, Tuesday.
She, however, refused to give details of how he was released and whether a ransom was paid or not.
It was gathered that the student was released on Saturday after his mother, who is the wife of a retired army officer, privately negotiated and paid a ransom.
The parents had earlier revealed that the bandits have been negotiating with them individually, asking each of them to pay N20 million before they eventually demanded a bulk sum of N100 million and 10 motorcycles on Monday, as condition for their release.
