Driver attempted to accelerate and tried to beat the train. The driver was rushed to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition. A spokesman for the Prince Georges County Fire Department says the car had plates indicating it was registered to a volunteer firefighter in the brians area of charles county. A First Responder says it may have actually been the car owners son who was driving the vehicle. The message after this is clear. Dont take the chance, you see the flashing lights. Even though theres not a gate present, you see the flashing lights, obey the signs and come to a complete stop until the train passes. Csx investigators on the scene say the train was traveling at a slow speed when it went through that intersection. But the exact speed will be determined through the investigation.
