Angeles City imposes liquor ban as Covid-19 cases rise

ANGELES CITY, Pampanga - The city government here has tightened health protocols by issuing a liquor ban to curb the increasing number of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) infections. An executive order issued by Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. on Friday said residents are not allowed to consume alcoholic beverages in public places. Selling, serving, and/or delivery of alcohol, wine, beer, liquor, and other intoxicating beverages will be strictly prohibited from January 8 to 15. "Due to the rapidly rising number of daily Covid-19 positive cases and growing concerns with the Omicron variant, there is a need to exact measures to limit the conduct of activities that could potentially spread the virus," Lazatin said in his order. Because this city, along with the entire province of Pampanga, was placed on Covid-19 Alert Level 3, the mayor reminded his constituents of the restricted activities imposed under such status, such as the temporary closure of funfairs and amusement centers,
