22:46 EDT, 6 May 2021 76 shares Jarryd Hayne will appeal his lengthy prison sentence after he was jailed for five years over the rape of a young woman in her bedroom.  The footy star s lawyers on Friday lodged papers with the New South Wales Supreme Court after he spent his first night behind bars.  He has filed a Notice of Intention to Appeal with the state s highest court - the first step in his attempt to overturn the jail term. Hayne s legal team have 12 months to launch a formal appeal. The 33-year-old was sentenced to five years and nine months for raping the young woman.
