Police in suburban St. Charles say a 20-year-old man is in serious condition after he was shot in the head when a gun another man was handling apparently accidentally went off.
According to authorities, the man was in an apartment with 22-year-old Jacob Kreuger at approximately 3:31 p.m. Thursday when a gun that Kreuger was handling went off, striking the victim in the head. Kreuger called authorities to the scene, according to a press release, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in serious condition.

An Elgin man is facing 25 years in prison for robbing a gas station in the northwest suburb in 2019.
Jeffrey Richardson was found guilty of robbing a Citco gas station, 1580 Larkin Ave., at gunpoint May 1, 2019, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
That day, Richardson, 30, entered the gas station and pointed a loaded gun at the clerk and demanded money, prosecutors said. He took $1,240 and left the scene on foot.
Elgin police found Richardson seven minutes later in the back yard of a home less than half a mile from the gas station, prosecutors said. Ten months after the robbery, the owner of the home found Richardson’s gun in a bush.
Phoenix teacher accused of having sex with juvenile student

PHOENIX (AP) A Phoenix school teacher has been arrested and accused of a long-term sexual relationship with one of his underage female students, according to federal authorities.
U.S. Marshals Service officials said 29-year-old Justin Walters was taken into custody Wednesday at a Chicago residence after he arrived earlier on a flight from Turkey.
An arrest warrant was issued May 6 for Walters, who is accused of 10 counts of sexual contact with a minor.
Walters teaches at the Desert Garden Montessori School, which, according to its website, serves students from 6 months old to age 18.
