Meeting of local bodies held to chalk out plan for 2021-22 Kozhikode district panchayat president Kanathil Jameela has called for time-bound completion of the works taken up by previous governing councils of the three-tier local bodies. She was talking at a meeting to chalk out the annual plan for the 2021-22 year on Tuesday.
Ms. Jameela said that the local bodies should be disabled-friendly. The standards of anganwadis should be raised in phases using the Cradle scheme. Steps will be taken to improve the activities of BUDS school and better the infrastructure there. Bhumithra project has been implemented to solve the disputes arising out of ownership of land and deputy collectors have been given charge of taluks to sort them out.

Green auditing to determine adherence to the green protocol in government offices has commenced in the district under the aegis of the Haritha Keralam Mission.
As a first step, online training sessions were organised for teams from various local bodies on green auditing and the criteria for grading an office.
Enforcing ban on disposable materials made of either thermocol, plastic or paper, reducing waste generation by using utensils that can be washed and reused, keeping utensils in offices for regular use, making arrangements for segregation and processing of solid waste, timely disposal of e-waste and unused furniture, implementing scientific waste management methods, ensuring clean toilets and displaying information on the green protocol in offices are among the pointers for gra

Newly elected Kozhikode District Panchayat president Kanathil Jameela has said that special schemes will be conceived for women who lost their jobs in the COVID-19 lockdown.
At a meet-the-press programme organised by the Calicut Press Club on Thursday, she said that the district panchayat would focus on self-employment programmes aimed at women empowerment.
The local body, in consultation with experts, will envisage programmes to combat child sexual abuse, Ms. Jameela said.
She said that the district panchayat would adopt measures in rural areas for post-COVID management protocol to address issues of patients. Assistance would be provided to students who missed their online classes, she added.

The new Kozhikode Mayor and the district panchayat president have a tough task at hand finishing Plan projects before the end of the fiscal.
Besides, Mayor Beena Philip has also the responsibility to complete Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Rural Transformation (Amrut) projects of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.
Kozhikode is one of the cities that lags behind in the implementation of Amrut schemes among the nine civic bodies in the State. The State average on expenditure is 41.67% whereas Kozhikode’s average spending is 34.20%.
