Representative Image STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: An interstate gang of vehicle lifters from Assam was busted, said police. The city police claimed to have busted a car gang of vehicle thieves and have arrested seven of its members. It is to be mentioned here that, the Geetanagar Police have been tracking the activities of the gang since last one year. As per police the gang is also associated with an international racket. On May 17, the police successfully apprehended one identified as Kamal Sarma from Hojai District. On the other hand, the rest has been identified as Mondeep Das, Dhrubajyoti Das, Debajit Bhattacharjjya, Deep Roy, Premjit Singha, Sanjit Singha.

National parks & sanctuaries shut for visitors in Assam | Guwahati News

Picture used for representational purpose only GUWAHATI: With the steep surge in Covid-19 cases across the state, all six national parks and 18 wildlife sanctuaries in Assam have been closed by the state forest department for the visitors until further orders are issued. The forest department’s order comes close on the heels of the advisory of ministry of forest, environment and climate change to the states, asking them to shut down all national parks and sanctuaries with immediate effect due to the alarming spread of Covid cases. The ministry, in its order, had mentioned that there had been reports of some lions dying due to the virus, owing to which the ministry felt that the virus also posed a major threat to animals living in these places.
