Baton Rouge / louisianaradionetwork.com Apr 15, 2021 5:48 PM Trooper Kaleb Reeves, son of former State Police Superintendent Kevin Reeves, receives the maximum penalty after an investigation finds his reckless driving caused a crash in Monroe that led to the death of a child and teenager last October. Master Trooper Michael Reichardt said Reeves is suspended for four and a half months without pay. “His suspension will begin on April 14 th and last until August 19 th of 2021. He will be on nonpaid leave for the maximum 720 hours,” said Reichardt. The investigation found the crash was preventable. Reeves was driving 20 miles over the speed limit, did not use his emergency lights, was driving without a seatbelt, and violated policy with reckless driving. Reichardt said Reeves will also have to undergo training.

State police officials announced the discipline decision in a news release Thursday, calling the crash preventable and reprimanding Reeves for his poor driving record. Investigators found he was driving more than 20 mph over the speed limit in this case, among other violations.

Reeves was driving a State Police-issued SUV. Reeves has not been charged in relation to the wreck, as of Thursday morning (April 15).  The same day State Police promised to release a news release, troopers arrested a truck driver who caused an unrelated deadly crash in Baton Rouge.  Trucker Marlin Jordan was charged with negligent homicide after a rear-end, chain-reaction crash on the Old Bridge.  In a news release Thursday morning about the separate, fatal crash involving the trucker, State Police wrote: After conducting a thorough investigation and reviewing all of the evidence, Troopers were able to determine that Jordan’s actions leading up to the crash were negligent.
