The Committee for Free and Fair Elections in Cambodia (COMFREL) confirmed on February 23 that the voter list officially announced by the National Election Committee (NEC) late last year is acceptable even though there are still some duplicate names on the list which could lead to the disenfranchisement of a small number of voters.
Oeun, a resident of Kampot province in southern Cambodia, recalled how rapidly wild stories around Covid-19 had spread in the early days of the pandemic.
“A lot of rumours went around here. For example, it was said eating chicken or putting a puppet in front of the house helped prevent or cure Covid-19,” he told the True or Not live talk show on the Voice of Democracy (VOD) radio station.

Kep authorities search for forest encroachers
Mon, 22 February 2021
Kep provincial governor Som Piseth has ordered the Damnak Changaur district administration to search for a group of people who have encroached on about 10ha land in three areas with flooded mangrove forests in Tuol Sangam village of the district’s Angkol commune.
Piseth told The Post on February 21 that district authorities were currently monitoring the encroachment sites with help from local residents because officials could not remain there around the clock monitoring it.
Piseth said the authorities had found 195 coconut trees planted on 3ha of the encroached land, which he says shows clear intention by whoever planted them to illegally occupy it. Authorities uprooted the trees and destroyed them. They have also removed 11 concrete fence posts as well.

Clean water supply in Kampot town with Japan’s aid
Thu, 18 February 2021
Kampot now boasts a stable supply of clean water thanks to the support of Japan’s Official Development Assistance, which has helped to upgrade infrastructure in the area.
Kampot town’s water woes are no more thanks to Japan building much-needed infrastructure to supply safe, clean water to local residents.
As part of a grant to Cambodia, the Japanese government implemented the upgrading project to expand the water supply system in Kampot from July 2015 to August 2018.
The province’s water purification plant and water distribution networks built in 1950s had been destroyed by decades of civil conflict.
