Join the launch of the Urban Heritage Climate Observatory

Search Monday, 26 April 2021 Climate change is one of the most critical issues of our time and its impact on World Heritage properties is more evident than ever. How can Earth observation data and tools support and promote actions to improve heritage protection, particularly in urban areas? The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Centre with the Greek GEO Office is launching the new GEO Urban Heritage Climate Observatory (UHCO) Community Activity on 26 April, 12:00 – 14:00 hrs CET with an open online event. This launch event marks the official inauguration of UHCO as a new Community Activity in the GEO Work Programme, and aims to bring together experts and stakeholders from the relevant fields of climate change, Earth observation and urban heritage.

30th Anniversary of the inscription of "Kyiv: Saint-Sophia Cathedral and Related Monastic Buildings, Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra"

Search Wednesday, 23 December 2020 2 min read To celebrate the occasion, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine and the National Kyiv-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Preserve, in cooperation with the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, organized an International Scientific and Practical Online Conference on “World Heritage Sites: Sustainable Development Practices for Urban Heritage” on 10 December 2020. The online conference brought together high-level representatives from the Ukrainian government and UNESCO, as well as site managers and several national and international experts on Urban Heritage for a discussion on the role of culture and cultural heritage in achieving sustainable development. The main objective of the conference was to raise awareness and build capacity amongst World Heritage site managers and enhance their capacities in contributing to inclusive, equitable, resilient, and peaceful cities.
