MARIETTA The Washington County Sheriff’s Office released the following reports: A deputy began an investigation Friday into a burglary in Belpre Township. The uncharged suspect returned the items and the victim then refused to file charges. A deputy was dispatched Friday to a report of an intoxicated driver on Ohio 7 heading to Marietta. The deputy observed a vehicle matching the description given and began to follow the vehicle. The vehicle continued crossing into the passing lane and swerving across the fog line prior to the stop. The deputy utilized his overhead lights and siren in which the driver of the vehicle continued driving. The deputy then pulled alongside the vehicle and identified the driver as Scott Carpenter and motioned for him to pull over, which he did. Contact was made with Carpenter and an odor of alcohol was detected on his person and his eyes were glazed. Carpenter’s speech was slurred and after exiting the vehicle he was unsteady on his feet.
