SACRAMENTO President Biden has tapped Julie Su, head of California’s Labor and Workforce Development Agency, to serve as his deputy labor secretary, a potentially critical role as his administration confronts widespread job losses and unsafe working conditions fueled by the coronavirus pandemic.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Su would help oversee a department that regulates workplace safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, workers’ compensation and job training.
Today, President Joe Biden announced two additional members of his energy and jobs team: David Turk, Deputy Secretary of Energy and Julie Su, Deputy Secretary of Labor. These tested and experienced leaders will support the work of Secretary of Energy Nominee Jennifer Granholm and Secretary of Labor Nominee Marty Walsh in their efforts to address the worst energy and jobs crisis in nearly a century.
Turk and Su will help advance President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda by rebuilding America’s middle class and creating an equitable clean energy future we can depend on. They will be partners to the President in building a stronger, more resilient, and more inclusive economy that delivers every American a fair return for their work and an equal chance to get ahead.

President Joe Biden moved quickly this week to pull back on moves made during the Trump administration.
In his latest actions, he withdrew the nomination made by President Trump of Vijay Shanker to be a judge of the District of Columbia Court of Appeals in Washington, according to Indian Link.
His Justice Department also dropped its discrimination case against Yale University, reported the American Bazaar.
Shankar is one of 32 nominations, including 17 for judgeships, which were made by Trump, but rescinded by Biden.
The Senate failed to act on the nomination of Shankar before the upper house turned over to Democratic control.
