BPE to concession TBS, Lagos Trade Fair Complex, Economic Zones

Daily Post Nigeria Published Amina Othman, Head of Public Communications, BPE disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. The list includes Tafawa Balewa Trade Fair Complex (aka TBS), Lagos International Trade Fair Complex (LITFC), Calabar Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and Kano Special Economic Zone (SEZ). The bureau will meet international investors later in February to showcase opportunities in the four enterprises. Last December, Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, clarified the roles of the BPE and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) engagements. He said the BPE acts on behalf of the Federal Government as a counter-party of all the infrastructure projects being developed on PPP basis.

COVID 19: Akwa Ibom business stakeholders task CBN on emergency liquidity

Daily Post Nigeria Published Business stakeholders in Akwa Ibom State have called on the Central Bank of Nigeria to make available an emergency liquidity in order to assuage the economic consequences of COVID-19 pandemic on businesses. They added that such would keep the economy afloat and enable people to retain their jobs and incomes. They made the call on Friday in Uyo, the State capital during a business summit tagged ”Leading In The Midst Of Uncertainty” which was organised by the founder of Community Stakeholders for Social Good (CSforSG) Manti Umoh. Umoh in her speech explained that the provision of emergency liquidity became necessary to forestall economic collapse which could also have human, social and health consequences.

The witness, who is a fashion designer from Idua community in Eket Local Government Area of the state, said that her late brother was shot in the chest. Thompson said she was in their parlour watching a movie when she suddenly heard noise as if people were fighting. According to her, since their house was by the main road and was not fenced, she moved out to see what was happening and saw policemen beating her brother because they wanted to collect his bag, but he refused to give it to them. She said when later allowed the policemen to take the bag from him, they then shot him twice in the chest.

Police killed my son while preparing for NDA -Akwa Ibom widow Patrick Odey, Uyo A 52-year-old widow from Nnungudu Community in the Ibesikpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Promise Akpan, on Wednesday, told the judicial panel investigating incidences of police brutality in the state that her son, Akaniyere, was killed while preparing for the Nigeria Defence Academy in May 2019. Akpan, a retired civil servant, explained that her son was shot in the market while trying to buy shoes needed for the school. She said, “My husband died in 2017. It was on January 13, 2019, my son was preparing to go to Nigeria Defence Academy, I tried as a mother since there was nobody to help. He was to leave for school on Wednesday.

A-47-year old widow from Nkek, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Mrs Mfon Udoidiong, on Thursday, narrated to the judicial panel on incidences of police brutality how one sergeant Idongesit Ekanem shot her son dead when he failed to offer N100 bribe to the said officer. Narrating her ordeal before Justice Ifiok Ukana led panel at the high court in Uyo, after resumption from a two week break, Mrs Udoidiong said her late son, Mr Imo Udoidiong, a final year student of the Uyo City Polytechnic, came home to collect money for his project. She explained that she pleaded with the boy to stay a while to enable her to gather the money adding that his late son accepted and later went to a nearby stadium to watch a local football match.
