Good morning. Thank my colleagues for being here promptly. Democratic colleagues informed us last night that they would not participate in the hearing. That was their choice. It will be my vote my joist about the nominee out of committee. We will not allow them to take over the committee. They made a choice not to participate, after allowing judge Coney Barrett four days, two days to be questioned i thought she did a good job of handling the questions asked. I thought she was aggressively challenged, but not i want toately, and complement my colleagues for not going down the Brett Kavanaugh road. And i want to complement the republican members of this committee for asking questions that mattered to you, showing a tremendous amount of discipline to make sure that on our side the hearing went well. And each of you, when this is over, i hope you feel like you have a sense of accomplishment. This is why we all run. It is moments like this that make everything that you go through matter. Th
Im going for the most unwelcome we begin with a pandemic in Europe European Union countries half agreed to a common strategy for restricting travel from coronavirus hotspots e. U. Ministers meeting in luxembourg want of traffic light system showing regions as green orange or red depending on the number of coronavirus cases ministers hope to avoid the kind of confusion that disrupted travel across the e. U. At the height of the initial outbreak earlier this year. Early brussels correspondent bob but ive easily explained in more detail how those traffic lights system is expected to work countries are not trying is. The same data used the same criteria to determine whether you can travel from point a. To point b. For instance germany has a travel warning against belgium where i am at the moment but france does not have a travel warning against or for belgium so why is that because they sort of set the point where the think a country is dangerous at Different Levels now that is supposed to
I congratulate you read much on the audit that you have, but more importantly everything youve done up to this type in your life to get you prepared for because if done a lot of work to establish a good reputation. Shes had an outstanding, as i said, in academia but shes also well known for mentoring women in the law. And i suppose that something that you could surely say you follow Justice Ginsburg on, because she was that sort of role model for everybody. And you refer to that in your Opening Statement on saturday, so i was glad to hear that. In that nature. What im looking for, and i think she stands for is the rule of law. I think following congressional intent rather than personal views, what the law of congress passes, and particularly thats important when it comes to interpretation of the c
These four days worth of hearings Siobhan Hughes, welcome. How did these hearings compare with ones in the past given we are now operating under the pandemic. Four days for the nominee. Caller four to guest four days is about the standard for a lot of people who have been tuning into the Supreme Court nominations only recently, it might feel a little different. That is because the Brett Kavanaugh nominations were so contentious. It did go on for longer than normal. Four days is about right. We will start monday with Opening Statements from senators. We will hear from a neat Amy Coney Barrett. Divebsequent days, we will into very intense questioning of her by the senators. Finally, there will be an outside panel that the senators will question. That is the format. That is standard. What is not standard is that we are operating in a pandemic. This is going to be a hybrid hearing. At the start, some senators are going to appear remotely. Two of them have tested positive for coronavirus. M
