Police have arrested two Garden City, Kansas, residents following the killing of a 49-year-old man in La Junta’s Morningside Heights neighborhood.
Matthew Perez, 38, faces first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of Ernesto Apodaca in La Junta on May 14. Nikki Olivas, 32, faces charges of being an accessory to the homicide.
Apodaca was sitting inside his vehicle outside of his apartment in the 600 block of Sunrise Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Friday when he was shot.
Perez and Apodaca are believed to have been acquainted with one another, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. However, circumstances surrounding their relationship and the homicide are part of an active investigation.

LA JUNTA, Colo. â Two people were arrested in connection with the May 14 homicide of a La Junta man.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced Tuesday that the two suspects, 38-year-old Matthew Perez and 32-year-old Nikki Olivas, both of Garden City, Kansas, were arrested.
Perez faces a first-degree murder charge and Olivas faces charges of accessory to first-degree murder.
The charges stem from the homicide of Ernesto Apodaca, 48. He was found shot inside his car Friday evening in front of his apartment building along the 600 block of Sunrise Avenue in the Morningside Heights neighborhood, CBI said.

La Junta police searching for homicide suspect

LA JUNTA, Colo. (KRDO) Several law enforcement agencies are investigating a homicide in the 1500 block of East Sixth Street in the Morningside Heights neighborhood on Friday.
According to La Junta Police, a 48-year-old La Junta man was shot inside his vehicle, parked in front of his apartment building. The victim s name is not being released at this time.
Authorities are searching for the suspect, a white or Hispanic male, possibly in his 30’s. Investigators are also asking for the community s help identifying a white or Hispanic female they believe was with the suspect leading up to the shooting. She s described as approximately 5 7 to 5 9 tall with dark hair, a medium to heavy build wearing a red or maroon tank top, dark pants and white shoes.
