Hefajat leader Jafar Ahmad arrested in Ctg s Hathazari Star Digital Report Star Digital Report Police today arrested Hefajat-e-Islam s now defunct central committee assistant secretary general Maulana Jafar Ahmad and two others from Hathazari upazila in Chattogram. The trio was arrested in connection with cases filed over the March 26 Hefajat mayhem, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent quoting police. The two other arrestees are Jubo Dal leader Md Akramuddin, and Hefajat activist Salauddin. Police arrested the trio from a secret hideout in Hathazari upazila. Maulana Jafar Ahmad is FIR accused in two cases while the duo was arrested after scrutinising CCTV footages, Hathazari Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rafiqul Islam told The Daily Star.

313 identified as Hefajat s donors | The Daily Star

Detectives claimed to have identified at least 313 donors, who used to finance Hefajat-e Islam that carried out violence across the country late last month protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit to Bangladesh. Confirming the development, AKM Hafiz Akhter, additional commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of police, said, We have so far identified 313 people who provided funds to Hefajat. According to investigators, a large number of them are expatriate Bangladeshis and some of them are top BNP leaders. Meanwhile, police sources said Mamunul Haque, who is now on remand, told that Hefajat wanted to turn Bangladesh into a country like Pakistan or Afghanistan through transforming the organisation into militant group Tehrik-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
