4th of July celebrations? Not everyone has canceled plans for the big day

A handful of communities have called off their July Fourth celebration plans, while many others intend to keep the festivities going in Northern California. In a normal year, you could probably find about two dozen different Fourth of July parades or firework shows, but some events have had to cancel festivities, either because permits and in some instances, safety concerns about gatherings. Major shows like the one at Cal Expo are still to be.

Latrobe July 4th parade, canceled last year, doubtful this summer

Shane Dunlap | Tribune-Review Passengers wave flags from the inside a vintage automobile during the 2019 Latrobe Fourth of July parade along Ligonier Street. The 2020 parade was canceled because of pandemic concerns and organizers said this summer’s event is in doubt.   TribLIVE s Daily and Weekly email newsletters deliver the news you want and information you need, right to your inbox. Organizers hope to have a scaled-back Fourth of July celebration in Latrobe this summer, though it appears likely the key event, a parade in downtown Latrobe, may not occur for the second year in a row. Latrobe Fire Chief John Brasile, a co-chair of the celebration, told city council this week that a lack of interest in participation, likely fueled by the covid-19 pandemic and uncertainties about related public restrictions, have cast doubt on the feasibility of an Independence Day parade this summer.
