Judson University in Elgin mourns the passing of professor emeritus Dr. Stuart A. Ryder on May 4, 2021, after a brief illness.
Affectionately known as Doc Ryder for decades while he was a faculty member and faculty liaison to the Judson Athletic programs, Dr. Ryder had developed long-term relationships with former students, alumni and colleagues who loved him like family and watched over him as he lived on campus over the years.
Just this last July, Dr. Ryder s Judson family organized a drive-by parade to celebrate his 90th birthday, complete with a cake and socially distanced lawn chairs so he could wave to those passing by.

Judson University to honor community service volunteers at May 10 prayer breakfast Jeff Miller

Judson University in Elgin will recognize the winners of the D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award and Bea Wilson Youth Volunteer Award during the annual Community Prayer Breakfast on Monday, May 10.
Judson will recognize one service leader from the community and one high school student for their contributions to greater Elgin philanthropic organizations, church communities and municipalities. The youth award winner also will receive an annual $3,000 scholarship to attend Judson.
The keynote speaker for the prayer breakfast will be Jeff Miller. On July 19, 1989, Miller was onboard United Airlines flight 232, a DC-10 with 296 people, when its rear engine exploded forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Sioux City, Iowa. He will share the story of his remarkable life-changing experience.
